About Sheila

Sheila Wanjiru Kamande is an experienced operations and risk management professional whose career spans media, strategic communications, humanitarian engagement, corporate security and regional operations across Africa.

Her professional journey is distinguished by a progression from public-facing media and communications into the leadership and coordination of complex operational programmes across multiple African markets. Over the course of her career, she has developed a strong combination of operational management, stakeholder engagement, client service, strategic communications and regional risk-management expertise.

Sheila currently serves as Operations Director – Africa at Sicuro Group, where she supports the coordination and delivery of operational requirements across the continent. Her role encompasses operational planning, client service delivery, regional partner management, resource mobilisation, process coordination and the implementation of security and risk-management solutions in both established and challenging operating environments.

Her ability to combine structured operational discipline with strong communication and stakeholder-management skills has become a defining feature of her professional profile.

Sheila began her career in the media and broadcasting sector, including early professional experience with Radio Africa Limited and Royal Media Services.

Her background in media provided a strong grounding in communication, research, interviewing, content development, audience engagement and the interpretation of complex information. These competencies would later prove highly relevant as her career transitioned into corporate operations, stakeholder management and risk advisory services.

She subsequently joined John Andrews Risk Management (JARM), where she developed extensive experience in security and operational management. Over approximately a decade with the company, Sheila progressed into the position of Operations Manager, becoming closely involved in the coordination and delivery of assignments across several African jurisdictions.

Her responsibilities included operational planning and coordination, client relationship management, partner and service-provider engagement, resource mobilisation, internal process development and the management of operational requirements across multiple markets.

During this period, she supported assignments spanning areas such as corporate security, executive protection, secure transportation and journey management, investigations, intelligence support, security risk assessments and specialised risk-management services.

Her role placed her at the centre of JARM's operational development and expansion, requiring the ability to manage complex and often time-sensitive assignments while maintaining effective communication between clients, operational teams, regional partners and other stakeholders.

Following Sicuro Group's acquisition of John Andrews Risk Management in April 2025, Sheila transitioned into the expanded Sicuro Group Africa operation.

The integration brought together JARM's established African operating capability with Sicuro Group's international risk-management expertise, technology platforms and global operational support infrastructure, creating a broader platform for delivering integrated risk-management services across the continent.

Today, as Operations Director – Africa, Sheila plays an important role in supporting the planning, coordination and delivery of Sicuro Group's African operations. Her work requires an understanding not only of operational execution, but also of the diverse regulatory, security, cultural and commercial environments in which clients operate across Africa.

Her experience has given her significant exposure to the practical challenges associated with delivering consistent services across multiple jurisdictions, managing regional networks and ensuring that client requirements are translated into effective operational responses.

Sheila's professional foundation is rooted in journalism, media and communications.

She is associated with the Journalism programme at United States International University–Africa (USIU-Africa), providing her with an academic and professional grounding in communication, research, information analysis, interviewing, content development and public engagement.

Her early experience in broadcasting, including her time with Radio Africa Limited and Royal Media Services, further developed her ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences and engage confidently with stakeholders.

These competencies have remained relevant throughout her professional career.

As Sheila moved from media into security, risk management and operational leadership, she increasingly applied her communications background within more complex corporate environments—engaging clients, coordinating operational teams, managing partner relationships and interpreting information to support operational decision-making.

She has subsequently complemented her communications foundation with more than a decade of practical experience in operations, security and risk management.

This combination enables her to bridge two disciplines that are increasingly important in modern risk management: the ability to understand and communicate complex issues clearly, and the ability to translate those issues into practical operational responses.

Sheila's professional interests extend beyond corporate operations into governance, education, strategic communications and social impact.

She previously served on the Board of the Nairobi Waldorf School Trust as a Communications Specialist, contributing her media and communications experience to the governance and strategic positioning of the institution.

Her contribution included supporting communication and stakeholder engagement within an educational environment and bringing to the Board the perspective of a professional with experience across media, corporate communications and operational management.

She has also served as a Trustee of the Bryan Obuna Foundation, extending her governance experience into the social-impact sector.

Her involvement reflects a wider interest in community development and initiatives designed to create positive opportunities for children, families and communities.

Beyond her formal board and trustee responsibilities, Sheila maintains a personal commitment to supporting children with autism and their families.

Through her own initiative, she has sought to promote greater awareness, understanding, inclusion and support for children on the autism spectrum. This work reflects a broader commitment to creating environments in which children with different developmental needs are better understood, supported and given opportunities to thrive.

Collectively, her experience across the Nairobi Waldorf School Trust, the Bryan Obuna Foundation, her autism-focused initiative and senior corporate leadership gives Sheila a well-rounded governance and social-impact profile.

She brings to these engagements a combination of strategic communications, stakeholder management, operational discipline and practical leadership experience, complemented by a sustained interest in education, inclusion and community development.

Despite progressing into senior operational leadership, Sheila has retained a strong connection to media, communications and executive engagement.

Through Sicuro Conversations, she has moderated and hosted high-level discussions exploring the political, economic, security and commercial issues shaping Africa's operating environment.

Her ability to engage senior leaders and subject-matter experts reflects the continued intersection of her media background with her present responsibilities in risk management and regional operations.

These engagements enable her to contribute to conversations that translate complex geopolitical and economic developments into practical considerations for executives and organisations operating across Africa.
