Preparedness lessons from the Israel–Iran escalation (11–14 June 2025)

Road in Israel Border

The recent escalation exposed the gap between stated preparedness and actual capability.

Despite weeks of elevated tension, some organizations were not positioned to respond.

If the right posture had been in place, there would have been little need for reactive crisis management.

Many handled it well. Some didn’t.

Where things failed

This is a recurring pattern. We saw it in Lebanon, Sudan, and Haiti. This was no different.

What worked

  • Communication was clear and simple. Teams using basic, familiar channels stayed connected.
  • Local awareness filled the gaps. Those with real in-country relationships had accurate information about border access and onward travel well ahead of formal alerts.
  • Early movement made the difference. Organisations that acted on local judgment avoided delays and congestion.

Disinformation created drag

False reports and recycled videos circulated within hours. In several cases, this created confusion and hesitation.

Preparedness includes knowing what to act on, and what to ignore.

Questions for leadership

  • Can your people act without waiting for head office?
  • Are your systems used in practice, or just written into policy?
  • Do your partners have operational presence, or just send reports?

Final point

Resilience is not a document. It is people in the right place, with the right knowledge, experience, and authority, acting early and decisively.

Those who were prepared had the right posture and proved both themselves and their plans under pressure.
