A well known Private Security Company operating in the East African country of Somalia, approached SicuroGroup (SG) to provide a secure personnel visibility (PV) solution, needed to support new security projects in Mogadishu.
The requirement specifically required a satellite based personal tracking device, that was capable of working both
in armoured vehicles and dismounted. In addition SG were to provide the ability to 2 way message (text) between teams and their Operations centres, both in Mogadishu and the UAE. Using the iSTARtrack web based application and the Sicuro Axtaris device, this was successfully implemented within days and included a two day training package in the UAE on both the device and the asset management application. The solution provides the necessary level of confidence required of professional organisations, that operate in such high threat environments with
a robust yet flexible monitoring application.
1) Host Nation Trucking:
A US Government contract providing near real time tracking of assets transiting throughout the theatre of Afghanistan. Over 5000 devices have been deployed to provide complete asset visibility of critical supplies to the US Military (US Mil). The solution requires devices to report every 15 minutes as well as be fed into the US Army tracking application. Devices also require a panic alarm system so that should a convoy have a problem the US Mil can support if necessary.
2) SicuroGroup provides monitoring software, services and crisis management for an internationally recognised security consultancy firm:
The deployment of our devices for both asset and personnel tracking has sufficiently enhanced the visibility of the client’s operations within Afghanistan. More than the deployment of the devices we designed iSTARtrack, the most advanced personnel and asset monitoring software in the market, and provide first-hand monitoring for them in country. Our Kabul JOCC is manned with local nationals, ex-pat country managers and technical experts. During emergencies we have successfully provided crisis management for the client and in addition given visibility of their movements in to NATO's suite of battlespace visibility systems.
A Mining Company located in the West African country of Burkina Faso required an In-Transit Visibility (ITV) solution for their ore haulage trucks. The requirement was for a simple and robust solution that required little interaction from the drivers, whilst providing the necessary visibility from the mine to the coast in the neighboring Ivory Coast. Using a rechargeable duplex device and the iSTARtrack web interface for asset management, the company is able to view all assets in near real time from anywhere in the world using our 128bit secure portal.
Maritime – Emergency Asset Tracking/ SAT Comms:
One of the world’s largest dredging companies, asked SicuroGroup to provide asset visibility for boats transiting the dangerous waters off East Africa and as far South as the Seychelles. The solution required a sea conditioned device capable of long transits with no human interaction. These devices were used to mark assets that if required would be cut lose in an emergency and later relocated using the transponder to guide the clients vessels to them. In addition there was an urgent requirement to provide back-up SAT communications using Iridium handsets for passages through the more hazardous shipping lanes – namely the Horn of Africa. SicuroGroup was able to deploy both solutions within hours of the initial requirement. Thereafter training was conducted on the vessel for the crew.
GCC – In Vehicle Management Systems (IVMS)
A well know Global Removals Company tasked SicuroGroup with scoping an IVMS based solution to monitor and track their drivers within the UAE. Special requirements included alerts for: 1. Unnecessary and unauthorised trips 2. Minimizing young driver’s speeding and encouraging safe driving 3. Excessive speeding, harsh braking, over-revving and inappropriate driving behaviours Having presented the client with a solution, SicuroGroup then installed several devices as a trial that was monitored by the client using iSTARtrack (SicuroGroup’s web based tracking application). As a result of a successful trial the IVMS solution is to be rolled across their UAE based fleet, some 200 vehicles.
Iraq - In Vehicle Management Systems (IVMS)
A Private Security Company approached SicuroGroup to provide a robust IVMS solution to support its Global O&G client’s Health & Safety policy. Goals of this solution were twofold:
1. Profile the patterns of individual drivers
2. Attempt to influence those patterns to reduce risk, fuel consumption, and vehicle misuse.
In addition to providing the above requirements, the solution required a secure web based application that would allow the client to monitor and track the assets in the Southern Oil Fields of Iraq. After a field installation by SicuroGroup engineers, they provided the necessary training to the security company and the vehicles mechanics. SicuroGroup provides a 2nd Line support function if required in country.
